On September 8, 2004 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave "qualified health claim" status to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) omega-3 fatty acids, stating that "supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. A number of scientific studies suggest that diets high in Omega-3 oils, and thus EPA, may protect against the development of heart disease, attention deficit disorder, arthritis, colitis and other inflammatory diseases. A recent study in the Archives of General Psychiatry suggests that 10 grams of fish oil per day, thus increasing intake of EPA, is effective in preventing the dramatic mood swings commonly observed in depression. Such results hold promise for treating other disorders such as ADHD. You can see just how important the omegas are for your good health and outlook. If you don’t eat enough fish just take the EFA’s Omega and have the benefits.
